back(pack) on track

A while back I had this really funny idea that I would write a blog post made up of the Top Five blog posts made up of Top Five lists.  I figured that it was just the sort of meta-blogging nonsense that I find amazing and awful in equal parts.  Then I got to realise that I’d need to write five of these posts for that too work.  Then upon further realising I realised that I had already written two - the/my top five pug videos and top five christmas sweaters.  My most recent realisation was that top five posts are easier to come up with than write and that I should come up with a word to use other than realise.

Anyway, I like rucksacks (you learn something new everyday, right?) so without futher ado, here are my top five rucksack choices.

5. Adidas Originals Adicolour Patch Backpack

Why it’s here: looks at all those pouches.  LOOK AT THEM.  This is one practical backpack and I like that.  If you want a fancy bag or something to make you look suave you’re going to pick something else.  Sometimes, practicality is the only thing a backpack has going for it but that’s ok.

Why it’s number five: it’s ugly and I don’t mean the sort of ugly that makes it ironic.  It’s just ugly.

4. Herschel Varsity Backpack

Why it’s here: Did you ever play Dr. Mario?  Where you ill as a child?  Well then this bag will bring back beautiful/horrible memories of when you were a little tike.  This is my ‘sensible choice’.  It’s inoffensive and fairly flexible.  It costs twice as much as the Adicolour bag.  Go figure.

Why it’s number four: it’s a little boring.  It’s one of the priciest on the list.

3. Eastpak Quilted Rucksack

Why it’s here: remember that time when everyone was wearing quilted jackets?  Remember that you wanted to join in but thought that quilted jackets were only for prats?  Well the solution my friend is a quilted rucksack.  All the fun of the trend but you can keep feeling smug and superior.  Also, a quilted rucksack means cosy contents.

Why it’s number three:  it’s good, but it’s not right.

2. Eastpak Aztec Rucksack

Why it’s here: cos Eastpak is, like, the Rolex of the rucksack world.  Eastpak basically makes the most perfect backpack that comes in so many colours, prints and forms of quilting that it’s impossible not to find one you’ll like.  I’ve chosen this for the same reason I picked the quilted bag for number three: you can stay on trend but not *too* on trend.  Let’s keep it unique y’all.

Why it’s number two: just wait ’til you see number one.

1. Walter Van Beirendonck – Chris and Tibor Rocket Bag

Why it’s here: it’s a rucksack shaped like a rocket.

Why it’s number one: IT’S  A RUCKSACK SHAPED LIKE A ROCKET!
